Physical aspects of the "direct" recording of body displacement, velocity, and acceleration by shinbar ballistocardiographs.

چکیده
THE APPLICATION of physical principles to problems inherent in taking and recording ballistocardiograms has resulted, not only in greater understanding of the genesis of the record, but also in several important advances in other directions. Thus, under the impact of this analysis a new type of instrument, the ultra-low frequency ballistocardiograph, has been reintroduced and the older high-frequency instrument has been much improved. A similar criticism, based on physical principles, has not as yet been applied extensively to some of the simpler and more popular methods of ballistocardiography; that is the aim of this paper. It can always be objected that the physical formulae used in such studies were derived either from theory, or from experiments with objects such as steel springs and oil damping, which bear little obvious resemblance to the complicated physical conditions that exist in the body where a large number of masses, some small, some large in size, are held together by bindings whose properties vary. The answer to this objection is two-fold. First the larger movements of the body studied, such as its movement as a whole on its supports, do conform closely to expectations from physical theory; and, second, the knowledge gained from calculations based on physical theory has resulted in improved methods and technics. So we

Acceleration-Based Quality Assessment of Railway Tracks using a 2D simulation model and recorded track data
Car body acceleration is an important factor affecting track safety and ride comfort, which are two primary aspects of railway systems. Though track level is an important source of wagon body acceleration, no quantitative relation between them is available and the aim of this paper is to propose a method to address this issue. To do so, car body acceleration is determined using a 10 DOF simulat...
متن کاملSeismic Amplification of Peak Ground Acceleration, Velocity, and Displacement by Two-Dimensional Hills
There are valuable investigations on the amplification effects of the topography on the seismic response in the frequency domain; however, a question is that how one can estimate the amplification of time domain peak ground acceleration (PGA), peak ground velocity (PGV), and peak ground displacement (PGD) over the topographic structures. In this study, the numerical approach has been used for t...
متن کاملDirect Optimal Motion Planning for Omni-directional Mobile Robots under Limitation on Velocity and Acceleration
This paper describes a low computational direct approach for optimal motion planning and obstacle avoidance of Omni-directional mobile robots within velocity and acceleration constraints on the robot motion. The main purpose of this problem is the minimization of a quadratic cost function while limitation on velocity and acceleration of robot is considered and collision with any obstacle in the...
متن کاملDesign of an Ultra Low Frequency Force Ballistocar-
T HE classic studies of Starr and associates,1 demonstrating that the displacement of a high frequency ballistocardiograph is related to the acceleration of cardiac ejection, opened a new and important field of physiology. The unique information so gained is perhaps more closely related to the functional status of the myocardium than any other accessible measurement. Recent analyses by von Ritt...
متن کاملEvaluation of Nonlinear Response of Structures to Near-Fault Ground Motions and the Comparison of Results with Near-Fault Simulated Records
Near-fault ground motions have caused very much damage in the vicinity of seismic sources during recent earthquakes. It is well known that under specific circumstances, intensive ground shakings near fault ruptures may be characterized by short-duration impulsive motions. This pulse-type motion is generally particular to the forward direction, where the fault rupture propagates towards the site...
